Jigawa Governor Leads Nigeria in Cyber Security Awareness Month 2025 With Groundbreaking Initiatives

In a bold move that positions Jigawa State at the forefront of Nigeria’s digital revolution, Governor Umar DanModi has unveiled a month-long programme dedicated to Cyber Security Awareness Month 2025. The initiative, spearheaded by his Special Assistant on ICT and Digital Economy Mal. Murtala Lawan Kazaure, is designed to strengthen digital resilience, empower citizens with cybersecurity knowledge, and foster a culture of safe online practices across the state. The Special Assistant explained that the campaign is about “taking cybersecurity from policy tables to the everyday lives of citizens.”

What To Expect in Cyber Awareness Month 2025

The initiative will run throughout October with creative, inclusive, and educational engagements:

  • Radio and Television Campaigns bringing cyber hygiene tips directly to households.
  • Webinars and Online Discussions connecting citizens with local and international cybersecurity experts.
  • Social Media Challenges designed to engage young Nigerians on safe internet usage in fun, relatable ways.
  • Hausa-Language Documentary on Cybersecurity, ensuring inclusivity and bridging the digital awareness gap in Northern communities.
  • Courtesy Visits and Policy Engagement Sessions with institutions, private sector leaders, and security agencies.
  • Recognition of Digital Security Ambassadors, celebrating individuals and organisations who promote digital safety.

Why Jigawa Is Taking the Lead

Nigeria is grappling with rising cyber threats, including online scams, identity theft, and data breaches. These issues not only affect individuals but also small businesses and government institutions. By launching this ambitious awareness month, Jigawa is setting a national example. Governor Danmodi stressed that cybersecurity is now a pillar of governance:

“The same way we secure our roads and communities, we must also secure our digital lives. This initiative is about giving our citizens the tools to stay safe and resilient online.”

A Model for Nigeria’s Digital Future

Experts believe Jigawa’s initiative could serve as a blueprint for other states in Nigeria. By blending grassroots communication (radio, local language documentaries) with policy-level engagement, the campaign balances awareness with action. It also aligns Jigawa with the global recognition of October as Cybersecurity Awareness Month, ensuring the state is not left behind in international digital safety efforts.

With this move, Jigawa is not only building a stronger digital economy but also protecting its people from the ever-evolving risks of the online world.
