NASENI Unveils Inter-Agency Innovation Initiative to Drive Homegrown Solutions

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has unveiled an Inter-Agency Innovation Initiative, a strategic move aimed at strengthening collaboration among government institutions to accelerate technology development and locally driven solutions in Nigeria.

The initiative brings together key public sector agencies, research institutions, and innovators to jointly address national challenges through science, technology, and engineering–based innovations. By pooling expertise, infrastructure, and resources, NASENI says the programme is designed to reduce duplication of efforts and fast-track the commercialization of innovative ideas.

Speaking on the launch, NASENI officials noted that the inter-agency framework will focus on priority sectors such as manufacturing, energy, agriculture, transportation, healthcare, and digital technology. The goal is to translate research outcomes into practical products and services that can support economic growth, job creation, and import substitution.

Under the initiative, participating agencies will collaborate on joint research projects, innovation challenges, prototype development, and technology transfer, while also supporting startups and young innovators with access to laboratories, technical expertise, and mentorship.

Industry stakeholders have described the move as timely, noting that stronger coordination among public institutions is critical to building a sustainable innovation ecosystem and reducing Nigeria’s reliance on foreign technologies.

The Inter-Agency Innovation Initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader push to grow the digital economy and industrial base, while positioning local innovation as a key driver of national development.

As implementation begins, NASENI expressed optimism that the initiative will unlock new opportunities for Nigerian innovators and strengthen the country’s capacity to compete in the global technology landscape.
