The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation through stronger collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (FMCIDE) and the National Information Technology Development Agency.
The renewed partnership is aimed at deepening digital innovation, improving policy coordination, and strengthening the country’s digital economy to support sustainable growth and national development.
Speaking on the collaboration, officials emphasized the need for stronger synergy among government institutions to fast-track technology adoption, digital skills development, innovation, and improved access to digital services for citizens and businesses.
The collaboration is expected to support the implementation of key national digital initiatives, including broadband expansion, digital literacy programmes, cybersecurity enhancement, and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing.
Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, stressed the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving Nigeria’s digital economy ambitions, noting that stronger institutional cooperation remains critical to unlocking opportunities in the technology sector.
Industry stakeholders believe the move could further strengthen Nigeria’s position as one of Africa’s leading digital economies by creating an enabling environment for startups, technology innovators, and investors.
Analysts also say closer coordination between the ministry and NITDA may improve the implementation of digital policies, encourage innovation-driven investments, and increase access to digital infrastructure across underserved communities.
The development comes as Nigeria continues to intensify efforts to diversify its economy through technology, digital inclusion, fintech growth, and innovation-led development.
Observers maintain that sustained collaboration among public institutions and private sector players will be essential in ensuring that Nigeria fully harnesses the economic potential of digital transformation.
