Nigeria and Ghana have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in digital innovation and technology as both countries seek to accelerate economic growth through digital transformation. The renewed partnership focuses on expanding collaboration in digital infrastructure, innovation, industrial development, renewable energy, and technology-driven economic opportunities.
The discussions were held during a high-level meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, and Ghana’s Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed. Both ministers emphasized the importance of leveraging technology, research, and innovation to address shared development challenges and improve regional competitiveness.
A key area of cooperation includes the promotion of digital technologies to enhance industrial productivity, strengthen local manufacturing, support startups, and build a skilled workforce capable of driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The two countries also explored opportunities for joint research, technology transfer, and the commercialization of innovative solutions across strategic sectors.
The partnership further aims to encourage knowledge exchange between research institutions, universities, and innovation hubs while fostering policies that support entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, digital skills development, and sustainable industrialization.
The renewed collaboration aligns with the broader objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union’s digital transformation agenda, positioning Nigeria and Ghana to play a leading role in advancing a more connected, innovative, and technology-driven West African economy. By deepening cooperation in digital innovation, both countries hope to unlock new investment opportunities, create high-quality jobs, and accelerate inclusive economic growth across the region.
