As Nigeria continues to expand its digital economy, technology education provider Aptech Nigeria is set to celebrate a new group of graduates as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s pipeline of skilled professionals.The institution’s 2026 National Convocation is scheduled to take place on August 8 at the Sheraton Lagos, bringing together graduates, alumni, employers, industry professionals, education partners and other stakeholders in the technology sector.Themed “One Milestone. Many Futures,” the event will recognise learners who have completed technology-focused programmes while highlighting the growing demand for practical digital skills in Nigeria.Training areas represented at the ceremony include software development, cybersecurity, multimedia, digital creativity and other emerging technology disciplines.Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy has created increasing demand for technology professionals across industries such as banking and financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing and government. The adoption of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, automation and data-driven technologies is further increasing the need for workers with relevant technical expertise.According to Aptech Nigeria, the convocation is intended to represent more than the completion of academic training. It is also an opportunity for graduates to transition from classroom learning and practical projects into professional careers.The Head of International Business at Aptech, Kallol Mukherjee, said the institution remains focused on preparing young professionals for the changing demands of the technology industry.He described the convocation as an opportunity for graduates to celebrate their achievements, develop professional confidence and become part of an expanding alumni community.Connecting Education With IndustryThe programme will include a formal graduation ceremony, recognition of graduates, networking opportunities, industry engagement, presentation of graduation kits and an alumni induction session.A scholarship draw will also form part of the event, with eligible participants having the opportunity to receive a 50 per cent international scholarship.Aptech said the gathering will provide graduates with opportunities to interact with industry stakeholders, develop professional connections and explore mentorship and career opportunities.Graduates from the 2022 academic session and subsequent eligible cohorts are expected to participate, subject to registration requirements. The organisation said its centres across Nigeria are currently engaging alumni ahead of the ceremony.The first 100 confirmed registrants will also receive complimentary guest passes for family members and friends attending the graduation.Skills Key to Digital EconomyAs Nigeria seeks to position itself as a major technology and innovation hub in Africa, experts increasingly point to human capital as an important part of the equation.Investment in broadband networks, data infrastructure and other digital facilities can only deliver its full economic value when businesses have access to professionals capable of developing, managing and applying those technologies.Skills in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software engineering, cloud computing and data analytics are therefore expected to remain increasingly important.Stronger collaboration between technology education providers, employers and industry organisations could help close the skills gap while improving employability and encouraging entrepreneurship.For Aptech Nigeria, the 2026 National Convocation is therefore not simply a graduation ceremony.
