A new initiative aimed at strengthening Africa’s digital future is set to provide young Africans with advanced training in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies in China.
Digital Equity Africa has launched the AI and Innovation Summer Camp in Shenzhen, China, offering selected African youths an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience in cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital innovation.
The programme is designed to equip participants with future-ready skills while fostering collaboration between Africa and China in the technology sector. Organisers say the initiative will expose young innovators to global best practices and help build a new generation of technology leaders capable of driving digital transformation across the continent.
Participants will engage in intensive training sessions, innovation workshops, and visits to leading technology companies and research institutions in Shenzhen, one of China’s foremost innovation hubs.
According to Digital Equity Africa, the programme seeks to bridge the digital skills gap and empower African youths to develop technology-driven solutions to local and global challenges. The initiative also aims to strengthen international partnerships and create opportunities for knowledge exchange between African and Chinese technology ecosystems.
Experts have welcomed the programme, noting that investments in AI education and digital skills development are essential for Africa’s competitiveness in the global digital economy. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries worldwide, equipping young people with the necessary expertise is increasingly viewed as a strategic priority for economic growth and innovation.
The launch of the summer camp reflects growing efforts across Africa to prepare young people for the opportunities and challenges presented by emerging technologies, while positioning the continent to benefit from the rapidly expanding global AI ecosystem.
