Nigeria has expanded its innovation ecosystem with the activation of a new technology-driven UniPod hub at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, as part of efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and research across the country.
The initiative, launched under the National UniPod Programme, is designed to provide young innovators, students, and entrepreneurs with access to technology, training, and collaborative spaces to transform innovative ideas into viable solutions.
The newly established Mining Technology UniPod aims to support innovation in the mining sector through digital tools, research, and capacity building. The programme is expected to create opportunities for skills development, startup incubation, and technological advancement within Nigeria’s growing digital economy.
Speaking on the development, stakeholders noted that the expansion of innovation hubs across universities will encourage creativity, problem-solving, and job creation, particularly among young Nigerians. The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader goal of promoting technology adoption and economic diversification through innovation.
The UniPod Programme, supported by development partners and government institutions, seeks to establish innovation spaces in tertiary institutions nationwide to foster research-driven entrepreneurship and technological growth.
Industry experts believe the expansion of innovation hubs could position Nigeria as a stronger player in Africa’s digital economy, while also encouraging homegrown technological solutions to local and national challenges.
As Nigeria continues to invest in digital infrastructure and youth-focused innovation programmes, the UniPod initiative represents another step toward building a knowledge-driven economy powered by technology and entrepreneurship.
