The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) has announced that its 2026 International Conference, branded RISE 2026, will serve as a strategic platform for advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation and strengthening the country’s innovation ecosystem.Speaking during the official unveiling of the conference in Lagos, NCS President Muhammad Aliyu said this year’s event will be held in Jos, Plateau State, in July under the theme: “Digital Innovation and Emerging Technologies for Inclusive Growth, Sustainable Development and Economic Resilience.”Aliyu explained that the conference is designed to go beyond a traditional annual gathering by bringing together policymakers, technology leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, students, and development partners to explore practical solutions for Nigeria’s digital future.According to him, discussions will focus on some of today’s most transformative technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, blockchain, fintech, cloud computing, robotics, digital health, education technology, big data, and smart governance. These conversations are expected to generate ideas that promote economic resilience, job creation, and inclusive national development.More than 2,000 participants from Nigeria and across Africa are expected to attend. The conference will feature senior government officials, international technology experts, industry leaders, and presidents of African computer societies. Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, is also expected to participate alongside key ICT regulators.Aliyu noted that selecting Jos as the host city reflects the society’s commitment to promoting innovation across different regions of the country. He described Plateau State as an emerging technology hub with improving digital infrastructure, a peaceful environment, and strong support for innovation.The event’s programme will include policy dialogues, executive leadership forums, technology exhibitions, research presentations, youth hackathons, and networking sessions aimed at strengthening collaboration between government, academia, industry, and innovators.Highlighting Africa’s growing role in the global technology landscape, NCS Deputy President Dr. Charles Onyeukwu said the continent must embrace innovation and knowledge-driven development to remain competitive in the rapidly evolving digital economy.The conference will also showcase young talent through the Information Technology Whizkid Competition. Dr. Olusoji Okunoye, Chairman of the NCS Education Committee, revealed that more than 700 secondary school students participated in the nationwide competition, with finalists set to compete during the conference in Jos.Meanwhile, Dr. Yinka Oyerinde, Chairman of the NCS Plateau State Chapter, assured participants that comprehensive logistics, reliable internet connectivity, stable electricity, and adequate accommodation have been arranged to ensure a successful event.Representing student innovators, Samuel Ojo, National President of the Nigerian Association of Computing Students, described RISE 2026 as an important opportunity for young researchers and technology innovators to present groundbreaking ideas, build partnerships, and contribute to Nigeria’s digital competitiveness.As Nigeria continues to invest in digital transformation, RISE 2026 is expected to provide a valuable platform for collaboration, innovation, and policy development that will support sustainable economic growth and position the country for greater participation in the global digital economy.
