The Federal Government of Nigeria has unveiled its AI Trust Vision, a new framework aimed at fostering responsible, ethical, and trustworthy artificial intelligence development and deployment across the country. The initiative was presented by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, during the London Tech Week 2026 conference.
The AI Trust Vision forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading hub for artificial intelligence innovation in Africa while ensuring that emerging technologies are deployed in ways that protect citizens, promote transparency, and strengthen public confidence.
Speaking at the event, Tijani emphasized that trust remains a critical factor in the successful adoption of AI technologies. He noted that as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, finance, and public administration, governments must establish frameworks that ensure accountability, fairness, and safety.
According to the minister, Nigeria’s AI Trust Vision is built on key pillars including transparency in AI systems, data protection, ethical governance, risk management, inclusivity, and human-centered innovation. The framework is designed to encourage both public and private sector organizations to adopt responsible AI practices while supporting innovation and economic growth.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which seeks to harness AI technologies to drive productivity, improve public service delivery, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the country’s digital economy. Government officials believe that a trusted AI ecosystem will attract greater investment, encourage innovation, and accelerate the development of locally relevant AI solutions.
Industry experts have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a significant step toward ensuring that AI development in Nigeria remains aligned with international best practices. They argue that clear governance structures and ethical standards will be essential for maximizing the benefits of AI while mitigating risks such as misinformation, algorithmic bias, and privacy concerns.
The unveiling of the AI Trust Vision comes amid growing global discussions on AI regulation and governance, as governments and technology companies seek to balance innovation with safeguards that protect citizens and institutions.
With the new framework, Nigeria aims to build a future where artificial intelligence serves as a trusted tool for economic development, social progress, and digital transformation, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become one of Africa’s leading technology and innovation hubs.
