Nigerian mobility startup MAX has raised $24 million in new funding to accelerate the expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem and clean energy infrastructure across Africa .
The funding round will enable MAX to deepen its transition from fossil-fuel-powered transport to electric vehicles, while also expanding its battery-as-a-service and charging infrastructure. The company operates a technology-driven platform that provides motorcycles, vehicles, financing, insurance, and energy solutions to professional drivers and logistics operators.
Founded in Nigeria, MAX has built a strong presence in the commercial mobility sector, supporting thousands of drivers with asset financing and digital tools. With the new capital, the company plans to deploy more electric motorcycles and vehicles, improve battery-swap stations, and scale operations in key African markets.
According to the company, the shift to electric mobility is aimed at reducing carbon emissions, lowering operating costs for drivers, and improving air quality in congested urban centers. MAX says its electric motorcycles significantly cut fuel expenses and maintenance costs compared to petrol-powered alternatives.
The investment also reflects growing investor confidence in Africa’s clean mobility sector, as governments and private players push for sustainable transport solutions amid rising fuel prices and climate concerns.
Industry analysts note that MAX’s integrated approach—combining mobility, energy, and financial services—positions it as a key player in Africa’s evolving electric vehicle landscape, particularly in high-demand cities like Lagos.
As Africa’s urban population continues to grow, solutions like MAX are expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation and green energy adoption across the continent.
